JESUS LOVES YOU! JESUS WILL LOVE YOU ALWAYS! JESUS IS YOUR BEST FRIEND! HE WILL NEVER ABANDON YOU! HE WILL NOT LEAVE YOU ALONE! This is the way I began my homily addressing our 72 children before they received their First Holy Communion. The church was packed. The children were in the front pews. Their parents had come early to be in the back pews of the Church. The late comers had to stay in the Narthex. Throughout the entire Mass you could sense the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Church was filled with JOY! It was last Saturday we were on the eve of Pentecost, the Feast of the Holy Spirit. In my 15 years at OLHOC, I do not recall having had such a large number of First Communicants. They were all...
Come Holy Spirit! Come! Fill our hearts with the Fire of Your Love! Come Holy Spirit ! Come! Heal our wounds! Renew our strength! Guide our steps! Come Holy Spirit! Transform us! Today we celebrate the great Solemnity of PENTECOST, the Feast of the Holy Spirit: the Holy Spirit descends as promised by Jesus before He ascended into Heaven last week. The Apostles and Mary are now gathered in the Upper Room where they have devoted themselves to prayers since Jesus’ Ascension. It is the day of the...
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. The first reading (Acts 1:1-11) gives us the best-known description of the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven. However, I want to focus today on the Gospel where just before being taken up into Heaven, Jesus tells each one of us: “Go into the world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved“ (end of Mark’s Gospel, 16:15-20). This summarizes the mission of the Church. We are all called to be MISSIONARIES. We are all called to get out of our comfortable chairs and to EVANGELIZE. As at the end of each Mass we are called to ACTION: “Go and Announce the Gospel of the Lord" or “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life", two of the options the priest can choose from. The question remains: how can I evangelize? What can I do? First, we can evangelize by...
Last Sunday our parish had the honor to have Bishop Olivier Leborgne from the Diocese of Arras ( Fr. Martin’s home) celebrate the 11:30 am Mass. Your feedback has been unanimous IT WAS A MOST JOYFUL EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION!!! Below are excerpts based on your comments including my own observations. It was a most fitting event to close the seven weeks of “JESUS AND THE EUCHARIST“ sessions, offered by the US Bishops Conference as part of a country-wide EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL and much appreciated by participating parishioners. The Eucharistic celebrations are essential in leading a community to unity in Christ: true communion of minds and souls across diverse backgrounds and cultures. The Bishop radiated the Love of Christ throughout the Mass. There was so much Joy! Many were touched by...
