Welcoming Our Archbishop Wilton Cardinal Gregory!

December 7, 2023It is an immense joy and honor for our parish to welcome Cardinal Gregory. He has been our Archbishop for over four years (May 21, 2019). He is our Shepherd and oversees the 140 parishes of the Archdiocese of Washington.
As announced earlier Cardinal Gregory will celebrate the 11:30 am Mass this Sunday December 10, the Second Sunday of Advent, just two weeks away from Christmas. He is coming to close the Centennial Memorial Year of Father Martin (December 31,1845- August 6, 1923). Following the Mass, he will attend with all of us the first performance by our Children and Youth of the Play about the Life of Father Martin, who spent the last 29 years of his life as the local Shepherd for the areas of Waldorf, Baden and Aquasco (1894-1923).
This is the third time Cardinal Gregory visits our parish. The first time was for the celebration of our parish 40th anniversary coinciding with the completion of our capital campaign and the blessing of our new steeple crowning our church and making it more visible as a Catholic Church. The second occasion was the dedication of our new altar in January 2022.
We had invited Cardinal Gregory to participate in the Father Martin's Centennial Memorial Mass August 6, 2023, the exact date of the 100th anniversary of the death of Father Martin in Waldorf (August 6,1923) but he could not come, and he was represented by Bishop Campbell. Pilgrims had come from France to represent the Diocese of Arras, France (where Father Martin was born and lived his entire childhood and adolescence before being ordained priest and becoming assigned as seminary professor in Rodez then Autun in France, Montreal Canada and finally Baltimore).
If you have never been to the11:30 AM Mass at OLHOC, come and discover the rich cultural diversity of our parish and experience the unity of different cultures in the celebration of the Eucharist, one of the legacies of Father Martin who was very successful in evangelizing African Americans and Native Americans. The 11:30 PM choir includes many Philipinos. The African choir of our 1 PM Mass will also perform one song. Our music Director, Sarah Kilikewich, will also sing the Offertory Meditation for Soprano and Organ written by a French composer in memory of Father Martin.
The legacy of Father Martin is being continued through the activities of the Father Martin Society, especially in devotion to the Eucharist, Support for the Priesthood, and their fruits of Intercultural Unity. The composer of the Offertory Meditation chose the text of the following Prayer for Vocations written by the Father Martin Society:
Heavenly Father,
We thank you and praise you
For the service of our priests
And religious sisters and brothers.
May they be inspired by the heroic legacy of Father Narcisse Martin,
Scholar, priest, and pastor a century ago, Especially in devotion to the Eucharist, Support for the Priesthood, and their fruits of Intercultural Unity.

To conform their lives to Jesus Christ.

DANDOLE LA BIENVENIDA AL CARDENAL WILTON GREGORY!
Es una inmensa alegria y honor para nuestra parroquia darle la bienvenida al Cardenal Gregory. El ha sido nuestro Arzobispo por mas de cuatro años (21 de Mayo, 2019). Es nuestro Pastor. El se encarga de 140 parroquias de la Arquidiocesis de Washington.
Como habia anunciado antes el Cardenal Gregory celebrara la Misa de las 11:30 am este Domingo 10 de Diciembre, el Segundo Domingo de Adviento, a solo dos semanas de la Navidad. Viene a cerrar el Ano del Memorial del Centenar de Padre Martin (31 de Diciembre,1845- 6 de Agosto, - 1923). Despues de la Misa asistira a la Primera Presentacion de la Obra de Teatro sobre la Vida de Padre Martin por nuestros Niños y Jovenes, quien paso los ultimos 29 años de su vida como Pastor local en las Areas de Waldorf, Baden Aquasco (1894-1923).
Sera la tercera vez que el Cardenal Gregory visita nuestra parroquia. La primera vez fue
para la celebracion del $o Aniversario de la Parroquia que coincidia con la finalizacion de la Campana Capital y la bendicion del nuevo campanario coronando nuestra Iglesia y haciendola mas visible como Iglesia Catolica. La Segunda occasion fue la dedicacion de nuestro Altar nuevo en Enero 2022.Hemos invitado al Cardenal Gregory a participar en la Misa en Memoria del Centenar de Padre Martin en la Misa del 6 de Agosto, 2023, la fecha exacta del Aniversario 100 de su muerte en Waldorf (6,Agosto 1923) pero no pudo venir, y fue representado por el Obispo Campbell. Los Peregrinos vinieron de Fran- cia para representar la Diocesis de Arras, Francia (donde Padre Martin nacio y vivio su ninez y adolescencia antes de ser ordenado como sacerdote y ser asignado como Profesor del Seminario en Rodez y despues en Autun en Francia, Montreal Canada y finalmente Baltimore).
Si usted nunca ha estado en la Misa de Maria Auxiliadora a las 11:30, venga y descubra la riqueza de diversidad cultural que hay en nuestra Parroquia y experimente la unidad de diferentes culturas en la celebracion de la Eucaristia, uno de los legados del Padre Martin que fue muy exitoso fue evangelizando a los Afro-americanos y Nativo Americanos. El coro de las 11:30 am incluye muchos Filipinos. El coro Africano de nuestra Misa de la 1 pm tambien presentara una cancion. Nuestra directora de Musica,
Sarah Kilikevitch, tambien cantara la Meditacion del Ofertorio para Soprano y Organo escrito por un compositor Frances en memoria de Padre Martin.
El legado de Padre Martin continua a traves de las actividades de la Sociedad del Padre Martin, especialmente la devocion a la Eucaristia, apoyo al Sacerdocio, y sus frutos de la Unidad Intercultural.
