Entering The Holy Week In Hope and Joy

April 10, 2025We enter the Holy Week walking with Jesus and processing with Him into the Church. We are waving Palms. We are singing. We recall the entrance of Christ the Lord into Jerusalem to accomplish the Paschal Mystery: Passion, Death and Resurrection. Our hearts are filled with Hope and Joy! This is the great celebration of Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord. This is our own entrance into the Holy Week. We sing: "Hosannah to the son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel. Hosannah in the highest." As we process into the church, holding our palms high, we remember Jesus' entry into Jerusalem for our salvation. We are entering the eternal Jerusalem! We are entering together with the first followers of Christ who began to praise God aloud with joy for all the mighty deeds they had seen and proclaimed: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest " (Luke 19:37-39). We too on Palm Sunday are filled with joy as in procession with Christ we are entering the summit of the entire Liturgical Year: The Holy Week! We are entering Heaven on earth!As we prepare our participation into the Holy Week, I invite you to pray to God: “O Loving and Merciful God, what do you want me to do for You this Holy Week that I have never done before?” In past years as your pastor, I have encouraged you to participate in the Triduum: Holy Thursday 7 pm Mass of the Lord’s Supper, Good Friday 7 PM Passion of the Lord (English), 4 PM Via Crucis & 5 Pm Passion of the Lord (Spanish), and Easter Vigil 8 pm. In this Jubilee Year of Hope 2025, I know that God will be pleased if you attend the entire Triduum, and I can assure you, you will receive many many blessings.
Since my childhood in Southern France, living 10 miles away from the great Pilgrimage Site of Lourdes, I have loved processions. I followed the long afternoon processions with the Blessed Sacrament and the thousands of sick pilgrims on wheelchairs or rolling beds being pushed by nurses or volunteers. I loved the candle-lit procession with the Blessed Sacrament at night, ending at the Grotto. The Grotto is the holy place where Mary appeared in 1858. Since then, many miracles have taken place. Millions of sick pilgrims have come in the Hope of a miracle. They come to be cleansed by immersion in the miraculous waters of Lourdes.
This Palm Sunday, we will have the usual processions starting from the Narthex before each Mass. But we are adding a special procession in the afternoon. Everyone is invited to participate. We will gather at 5:30 pm in front of the outdoor statue of Mary. Palms will be distributed. Following introductory prayers, the Celebrant Father Carlos will bless the palms. Then we will begin a long procession in our neighborhood before entering into the church to attend the 7 pm Mass.
I also invite everyone to read again the Passion of the Lord according to St Luke
(Luke 22:14-23-56), the one being proclaimed this Palm Sunday (Year C). Luke emphasizes the Compassion and Mercy of Jesus. For example, this is the only Gospel that includes the dialogue between Jesus and the good thief. He asks “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom” and hears this great promise: “Today, you will be with me in Paradise”. In this Jubilee Year of Hope, let us pray thar God will grant us the grace of reconciling with Him and with our brothers and sisters. Do not be ashamed to ask for God’s Forgiveness. If you have not yet gone to Confessions this Lent, come before the Triduum: Confessions from 5 pm to 7 pm this coming Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (April 14-16)! And then purified, totally in a state of grace, hear God’s Promise of Eternal Life with Him! You can feel like being in Paradise as you celebrate the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord: The Joy and Hope of this Jubilee 2025!

ENTRANDO EN ESTA SEMANA SANTA CON
ESPERANZA Y ALEGRIAEmpezamos la Semana Santa caminando con Jesus y procesionando con Él en la Iglesia. Moviendo nuestros Ramos. Cantando. Recordando la entrada de Cristo el Señor en Jerusalén para cumplir con el Misterio Pascual: La Pasión, Muerte, y Resurrección. Nuestros corazones están llenos con Esperanza y Alegría! Esta es la gran celebración del Domingo de Ramos de la Pasión del Senor. Esta es nuestra entrada a la Semana Santa. Cantamos: "Hosanna al Hijo de David; bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor, el Rey de Israel. Hosanna en las alturas." Cuando entramos en procesión a la Iglesia, sosteniendo nuestros ramos en alto, recordamos a Jesus entrando a Jerusalen por nuestra salvación. Estamos entrando a la Jerusalén eterna! Estamos entrando juntos con los primeros seguidores de Cristo quienes empezaron a alabar a Dios con fuerte voz y gran alegría por las poderosas obras que habían visto y proclamaban: “Bendito es el Rey quien viene en el nombre del Señor. Paz en el cielo y gloria en las alturas" (Lucas 19:37-39). También nosotros estamos llenos de Alegría en este Domingo de Ramos al procesionar con Cristo entramos en la cima de todo el Año Litúrgico: La Semana Santa! Estamos entrando al cielo en la tierra!
Desde mi ninez en el Sur de Francia, viviendo a 10 millas de distancia del gran sitio de Peregrinajes de Lourdes, me encantan las procesiones. Seguía las procesiones largas de la tarde con el santísimo Sacramento con los miles de peregrinos enfermos en sillas de ruedas o camas rodantes siendo empujadas por enfermeras o voluntarios. Me encantaba también las procesiones con velas con el santísimo Sacram ento durante la noche, finalizando en la Gruta. La Gruta es un lugar santo donde la Virgen Maria apareció en 1858. Han habido muchos milagros en ese lugar. Millones de peregrinos han ido con la Esperanza de un milagro. Vienen a ser limpiados por inmersión en las milagrosas aguas de Lourdes.
Este Domingo de Ramos, tendremos la procesión de siempre empezando el la entrada de la Iglesia en cada Misa. Además estamos agregando una procesión especial en la tarde. Todos están invitados a participar. Nos reuniremos a las 5:30 pm enfrente de la Imagen de la Virgen Maria que está afuera. Se distribuirán los Ramos. Seguido de las Oraciones introductorias, el Celebrante Padre Carlos bendecirán los ramos. Después empezaremos la procesión alrededor del vecindario para entrar de regreso a la Iglesia para asistir a la Misa de 7 pm.
Para prepararnos con anticipación para entrar en la semana Santa, los invito a rezar a Dios:”Oh, Dios amoroso y misericordioso, que quieres que haga por Ti en esta Semana Santa, que no haya hecho nunca antes?” en años pasados como su Pastor los he animado a participar en el Triduum: La Misa de la Última Cena a las 7 pm el Jueves Santo, Viernes Santo a las 7 PM (ingles), 4 PM Via Crucis y 5 PM Pasion del Señor (español).Vigilia de Pascua a las 8 pm. En este Ano Jubilar de la Esperanza 2025, Se que Dios estará complacido si usted asiste a todo el Triduum. Y puede asegurarle que recibirá muchas bendiciones
También los invito a leer otra vez la Pasión del Señor según San Lucas (Lucas 22:14-23-56), la que será proclamada este Domingo de Ramos (Ano C). Lucas enfatiza la Compasión y Misericordia de Jesus. Por ejemplo, este es el único Evangelio que incluye el diálogo entre Jesús y el ladrón bueno. Él pregunta, “Jesús, recuerda cuando estés en tu Reino” y escucha esta gran promesa : “Hoy, tú estarás conmigo en el Paraíso”. En este Año Jubilar de la Esperanza, oremos para que Dios nos conceda la gracia de reconciliarnos con Él y con nuestros hermanos y hermanas. No tengan verguenza de pedir perdon a Dios.Si todavia no han ido a Confesion en esta Cuaresma,vengan antes del Triduum: Confesiones desde las 5 pm a las 7 pm este Lunes, Martes y Miércoles (Abril 14-16)! Y ya purificado, totalmente en estado de gracia, escuchan la Promesa de Dios de una Vida Eterna con El! Puede sentirse como en el Paraíso cuando celebre la Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección de nuestro Señor : La Alegría y Esperanza de este Jubileo 2025!
