What a Joy to attend the Ordination of 14 young transitional Deacons at St. Matthew’s Cathedral last Saturday! Especially as two of them had served our parish as summer seminarians.

John Winslow was with us four years ago. His home parish is St. John Regis in Hollywood, MD. His great-uncle John Aley has been a parishioner at OLHOC from the very beginning. I met him at the end of the Ordination Mass. He was beaming with joy.

Isaac Sagastume has been with us the last two years. His home parish is in New Jersey. His family had come from Costa Rica. It was a joy for all of us to have newly ordained Deacon Isaac celebrate his first Mass as Deacon at our parish Sunday morning. His parents and close family were also present.

Deacon Isaac had asked us to give him the opportunity to make use of his new faculties as early as possible. Right after the short reception in the Narthex, he baptized two children in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, which was packed with family members. He then joined us for the Eucharistic Procession of Corpus Christi and had the great opportunity to give his first Benediction at the foot of the outdoor Crucifix.

This week we hear Jesus say in the Gospel, "I am the living bread come down from heaven. If someone eats this bread he will live forever." The words of Jesus are for all of us today. Unless we eat of the body of our Lord we do not have life within us. In life we go after a multiplicity of bread, bread that does not satisfy (success, money, beauty). After eating, we find ourselves continuously hungry and seeking for more. The words of Jesus are a good news. We no longer have to live hungry but satisfied! The Lord comes to give us eternal life. Yes in heaven but also a fortaste of this here and now. In the Eucharist we partake of the very words of Jesus- in the Eucharist we receive eternal life to live out our Christian lives.
 

We give thanks to God for the Gift of Deacons John and Isaac. May God keep protecting both of them as they complete their final year of priestly formation. May they also be an inspiration to other young men who may also receive the Call from God.

PRIMERA MISA DEL DIACONO ISAAC COMO DIACONO

Que gran alegria fue asistir a la Ordenacion de 14 Diaconos Transicionales en la Catedral de San Mateo el sabado pasado! Especialmente por dos de ellos que han servido en nuestra parroquia durante el Verano como seminaristas.

John Winslow estuvo con nosotros hace cuatro años, Su parroquia es San John Regis en Hollywood, MD. Su Tio abuelo John Aley ha sido parroquiano de Maria Auxiliadora desde sus inicios. Los salude al finalizar la Misa de Ordenacion. El estaba lleno de alegria.

Isaac Sagastume ha estado con nosotros por los ultimos dos años. Su parroquia es en Nueva Jersey, Su familia vino de costa Rica. Fue una gran alegria para todos tener al recien ordenado Diacono Isaac celebrando su primera Misa como Diacono en nuestra Parroquia el Domingo en la Manana. Sus padres y amigos cercanos tambien estaban presentes.

El Diacono Isaac nos ha pedido que le demos la oportunidad de usar sus recien adquiridas facultades tan pronto como sea posible. Justamente despues de la pequeña recepcion, bautizo a dos niños en la Capilla Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, la que estaba Llena de los familiares de los niños. Despues se unio a la Procesion Eucaristica de Corpus Cristi y tuvo la gran oportunidad de dar su primera bendicion al pie del crucifijo afuera.Por favor vea aqui algunas partes de su primera e inspiradora homilia como Diacono:

Esta semana escuchamos a Jesus decir en el Evangelio, "Yo soy el pan vivo bajado del cielo. Si alguno come de este pan vivira para siempre." Las palabras de Jesus son para todos hoy. A menos que comamos del cuerpo de nuestro Señor no tenemos vida en nosotros. En la vida vamos detras de una multitude de panes, pan que no nos satisface (exito, dinero, belleza). Despues de comerlos segimos hambrientos y buscamos mas. Las palabras de Jesus son buenas noticias. Ya no tenemos que estar hambrientos sino satisfechos! El Señor vino a darnos vida eterna. Si, en el Cielo pero tambien aqui y ahora. En la Eucaristia participamos de las mismas palabras de Jesus y en la Eucaristia recibimos esa vida eterna para vivir nuestras vidas Cristianas.

Damos gracias a Dios por el regalo de los Diaconos John e Isaac. Que Dios los siga protegiendo para que puedan finalizar su año final de preparacion para formarse como sacerdotes. Para que tambien sean una inspiracion para otros jovenes que tambien reciban el llamado de Dios.
