I bring you Good News of Great Joy: Our 13-year- old Abraham has been miraculously healed! We can all rejoice in Abraham's joy!!! We can all rejoice with Abraham's parents and three sisters! Abraham's parents have asked me to thank all of you for your continuous prayers! We can all be grateful to God for Abraham’s amazing recovery in last two weeks –a true miracle!
You will recall that I asked the entire parish to pray for the healing of Abraham on the first day of our 40- hour Adoration, Thursday, September 7. On that very day, Fr Jan and I visited Abraham for the first time at Children's National Hospital in Washington DC. He was in critical condition. He had all the symptoms of viral meningitis. He did not show any signs of recognizing us. When I anointed him, I felt the Holy Spirit coming upon him. I knew in my heart that he would survive. I knew that one day, he would talk and walk again, although the only external sign of life he was showing is that he could move his eyes.
Since then, it has been seven very difficult, long weeks for Abraham and his entire family. His parents spent every day with him. In the end, the doctors and family made the decision to stop all antibiotics and address treatments to his blood condition. There was literally no visible or promising progress.
Many, many people kept praying. Relics were also brought in hope of a miracle: Saint Carlo Acutis (the First Millennial Saint), Saint Padre PIO, Servant of a God Carmen Hernandez. In our parish, we began to pray for a miracle through the intercession of Father Narcisse Martin. A special Prayer Card was prepared. Many people prayed regularly. I also prayed with the parents of Abraham in his hospital room. There were small signs of improvement. Abraham began to squeeze hands when asked if he could hear. This was the beginning of his recovery -- - he could communicate.
Last Tuesday was a wonderful day! When I entered Abraham’s hospital room, his mother was smiling. For the first time since his hospitalization, I could hear Abraham’s voice when he clearly said, " Father Alain!" He too was smiling. I had brought his mother our weekly bulletin including the special prayer for Abraham through the intercession of
Father Martin. His mother showed the column to Abraham and asked him to read the title. He could read again! On that day, Abraham laughed several times. Such a joyous sound! He was so happy to be able to communicate so clearly. When I planned to give him a very tiny piece of the Eucharist, his mother said I could give him the full host, as he had just begun on that day to eat for the first time (though still dependent on tube-feeding). What a joy for Abraham, for us all!
Yesterday, I went to see Abraham and could not believe my eyes! With some minor help from the phys- ical therapist, he was standing up and moving his knees up and down! God can do anything! God listens to our prayers! Let each of us keep praying for the full recovery of Abraham, for his return home and to walk and running!
“Let us pray with confidence to God for the healing of Abraham Ugues, through the intercession of Fr. Narcisse Martin, Seminary Professor, Theologian and Pastor a century ago, serving the people of Waldorf, Baden and Aquasco (1894-1923), and whose canonization process is under consideration by Cardinal Wilton Gregory. Together, and in union with Abraham, we say the “Our Father” prayer that Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us. Amen”

Amen”

Padre Alain
