A Most Joyful Eucharistic Celebration in a Jubilee Year

April 3, 2025I could sense the presence of the Holy Spirit throughout the entire Eucharistic Celebration from the Procession Entrance through the Closing Hymn. I felt in my heart a deep sense of JOY. A beautiful Liturgy in both its simplicity and its spiritual depth. I have a hard time to find the words to describe such an experience, an experience of the Presence of God at the Altar and an experience of the Unity of the assembled congregation into the Body of Christ. Have you ever felt this way when participating in a Eucharistic Celebration?
Many of you were present. This was last Sunday’s Eucharistic Celebration at the 11:30 am Mass. We had waited for nine months... Our seminarian « John V« was ordained Priest last June—we give numbers to our seminarians, last year we had Peter X -Pedro. It was John V ‘s First Mass at OLHOC last Sunday. It was Rejoice Sunday (Laetare in Latin): the mid- point in our Lenten journey. It was most moving. Father John Winslow’s family was present, including his great Uncle John Aley, a long-time parishioner. I had chosen to concelebrate so that I could participate directly in this parish reunion.
It was a Joy to be at the Altar together with Father John V. It was the Joy of a Jubilee: going back in time to celebrate God’s blessings and being grateful to Him. Six years ago, John V was with us at OLHOC as a young summer seminarian for two months. He had also joined us on a parish pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes two years earlier: the 100th Anniversary of Mary’s Apparitions to three little children, humble shepherds. He was very moved by the Holy Spirit when he served at the Mass in the Chapel of the Apparitions in Fatima later at the Lourdes Grotto.
Now, Father John was the main celebrant, delivering a simple, clear, beautiful and powerful homily on the Parable of the Merciful Father. Everyone was listening attentively. He concluded by admonishing all of us if we did not avail ourselves of the grace of the Sacrament of Reconciliation before entering into the Holy Week:GO TO CONFESSION! Keep the priests busy at OLHOC!
Let us remember the Year 2025 as a Jubilee Year of Hope: a time to reconcile with God whom we have offended by our sins and also a time to reconcile with our brothers and sisters that have offended us. Remember God the Merciful Father is waiting for us in the Confessional. He wants to embrace us as the Father did when his lost young son returned: “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to be called your son” (Luke 11-32). Remember the Father’s answer: “Let us celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again: he was lost, and has been found.”
Every participation in the Sacrament of Reconciliation is Jesus’ partial fulfillment of the Biblical Jubilee as offering Redemption of our sins (Leviticus 25). Every Eucharistic Celebration is Jesus’ entire fulfillment of the Biblical Jubilee: the Eucharist is Jesus and Jesus is the Jubilee!
May God grant us many blessings as we prepare to enter into “Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord” next week. May this be a time of Reconciliation, Prayer and Joy as we complete our Lenten Journey!

Father AlainUna celebración Eucarística muy alegre en un Año JubilarPodía sentir la Presencia del Espíritu Santo en toda la celebración Eucarística desde la Procesión de entrada hasta el canto de salida. Sentí en mi corazón una profunda sensación de ALEGRÍA. Una Liturgia hermosa de una profunda simpleza espiritual. Me cuesta trabajo encontrar las palabras para describir tal experiencia, una experiencia de la Presencia de Dios en el Altar y de la congregación unida en el Cuerpo de Cristo. ¿Alguna vez se ha sentido así al participar en una celebración Eucarística?
Muchos de ustedes estuvieron presentes. Esto sucedió el domingo pasado en la celebración Eucarística de la Misa de las 11:30 am. Esperamos nueve meses... Nuestro seminarista, John V« fue ordenado Sacerdote en Junio del año pasado. Numeramos a nuestros seminaristas, el año pasado tuvimos a Pedro X. Esta fue la Primera Misa de Padre John V aquí en Maria Auxiliadora el domingo pasado. Fue el Domingo de la Alegria (Laetare en Latin): el punto medio de nuestro caminar de Cuar- esma. La familia de Padre John Winslow estuvo presente, incluyendo a su tío abuelo John Aly, par- roquiano desde hace mucho tiempo. Escogí concele- brar así poder participar en esta reunión parroquial.
Fue una gran Alegría estar en el Altar junto con el Padre John V . Fue la Alegría del Jubileo: celebrando las bendiciones de Dios y agradeciéndole. Hace siete años John V estuvo con nosotros en Maria Auxiliadora como un seminarista joven durante dos meses este verano. También nos acompañó al Peregrinaje que hicimos a Fátima y Lourdes dos años antes: el Centésimo Aniversario de las Apariciones de María a los tres niños, humildes pastorcitos en una pequeña aldea en el norte de Lisboa (desde Mayo hasta Octubre 1917). Estuvo movido por el Espíritu Santo cuando sirvió en la Misa en la Capilla de las Apariciones en Fátima y en la Cueva de Lourdes. Ahora, el Padre John V era el celebrante principal, dándonos una homilía hermosa y poderosa de una manera muy clara y simple acerca de la Parábola del Padre Misericordioso. Todos estábamos escuchando atentamente. Concluyó exhortándonos a que estamos dispuestos con la gracia del sacramento de la Reconciliación antes de empezar la Semana Santa: VAYAN A CONFESION ! Mantengan a los sacerdotes ocupados en Maria Auxiliadora!
Recordemos que el Año 2025 es el Año Jubilar de laEsperanza: un tiempo para reconciliarnos con Dios a quien hemos ofendido por nuestros pecados y así también reconciliarnos con nuestros hermanos y hermanas quienes nos han ofendido . Recordemos al Padre Misericordioso esperandonos en el Confesionario. Quiere abrazarte como lo hizo el Padre con su hijo menor perdido cuando regresó:“Padre, he pecado contra el Cielo y contra Ti. No merezco ser llamado Tu hijo”( Lucas 11-32). Recuerda la respuesta del Padre: “Celebremos con una fiesta, porque este hijo mío estaba muerto, y volvió a la vida: estaba perdido, y ha sido encontrado”.
En cada participación en el Sacramento de la Reconciliación es un cumplimiento parcial del Jubileo Bíblico como ofrecimiento de la remisión de nuestros pecados(Leviticos 25). Cada celebración Eucarística es el cumplimiento Bíblico Jubilar completo: la Eucaristia es Jesus y Jesus es el Jubileo!
Que Dios nos conceda muchas bendiciones al prepararnos para el “Domingo de Ramos de la Pasion del Senor” la próxima semana. Que sea un tiempo de Reconciliación , Oración y Alegría al completar nuestro Caminar Cuaresmal!
