Pilgrims of Hope

October 18, 2024Jubilee Years happen every 25 years. The last major Jubilee was in the Year 2000 with Pope John Paul II entering a new Millenium! Jubilees are always a time for forgiveness of sins, reconciliation and conversion. Next year millions of pilgrims will visit Rome for the Jubilee 2025. Whether or not we will be able to visit Rome in 2025, we are all invited to celebrate the Jubilee Year including in our own Churches. The theme of this Jubilee is HOPE: “Hope does not disappoint" (Romans 5:5). Pope Francis in announcing this new Jubilee said, “Now the time has come for a new Jubilee when once more the Holy Door will be flung open to invite everyone to an intense experience of the Love of God that awakens in hearts the sure Hope of Salvation." Life is a pilgrimage: we are coming from God and returning to God. We are all invited to be PILGRIMS OF HOPE IN 2025! As children of God, we are people of Hope since our Baptism. We need Hope. We all face many challenges and sufferings. Our Hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus is the "door" (John 10:7-9) of our Salvation. Jesus is our hope!
The Jubilee Year will offer opportunities to participate in various events at the Vatican but also in our own Diocese. Several of you have asked whether we could organize a parish pilgrimage to Rome. Others have asked that our next pilgrimage should also include Medjugorje where the Blessed Virgin Mary continues to appear. I am happy to announce that we have made some progress. Tentatively we now plan to leave on May 6 for Rome where we can go through the Holy Door at St Peter's Basilica that will be opened by Pope Francis on December 24 and receive many special blessings and indulgences. As part of our own year of Eucharistic Revival, we will also experience seeing the amazing Eucharistic Miracle in Lanciano. Plans also include Assisi: St Francis, St Claire and Blessed Carlo Acutis the 15-year-old Millenium Saint (whose intact body can be venerated). We will then go to Croatia (probably by ferry) and visit Split and Dubrovnik on our way to Medjugorje. I give you these tentative plans so you can contact me if you are interested. Note we are trying for these dates but the final ones will be confirmed later. I assure you that this pilgrimage will bring many spiritual gifts and blessings from God, and I look forward to another great parish pilgrimage (the last two, were to The Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis and to Israel).We all need HOPE. We face daily challenges. At times we might even fall into the darkness of despair and may "feel" abandoned by God. But we firmly believe that God never abandons us! Padre Pio reminds us of the power of PRAYER and HOPE: "PRAY, HOPE, DO NOT WORRY". I invite all of you to pray the 2025 JUBILEE PRAYER and reflect on its power while meditating in front of the Blessed Sacrament:
Father in Heaven,
May the FAITH you have gifted us in Your Son Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of CHARITY
kindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, reawaken in us, the blessed HOPE
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May Your Grace transform us
into diligent cultivators of the evangelical seeds
that make humanity and the cosmos rise
unto the confident expectation
of the new heavens and the new earth,
when with the power of Evil overcome,
Your Glory shall be manifested eternally.
May the Grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, PILGRIMS OF HOPE, the yearning for heavenly treasures
and pour over all the earth
the Joy and Peace
of our Redeemer.
To you God blessed in eternity,

JUBILEO 2025: PEREGRINOS DE LA ESPERANZA
Los Años Jubilares son cada 25 años. El último e importante Jubileo fue en el Año 2000 con el Papa Juan Pablo II entrando al nuevo milenio! Los Jubileos siempre son un tiempo de perdón de los pecados, reconciliación y conversión. El próximo año millones de peregrinos visitarán Roma para el Jubileo 2025. Sea que vayamos o no a poder visitar Roma en el 2025, todos estamos invitados a celebrar el Ano Jubilar incluso en nuestras propias parroquias. El Tema de este Jubileo es ESPERANZA: “La Esperanza nunca nos decepciona" (Romanos 5:5). El Papa Francisco cuando anunciaba el nuevo Jubileo dijo, “ahora el tiempo ha llegado para un nuevo Jubileo cuando una vez más la Puerta Santa será abierta para invitar a todos a experimentar intensamente el Amor de Dios que despierta los corazones la Esperanza segura de la Salvación”. La vida es un peregrinaje: venimos de Dios y volveremos a El. Todos estamos invitados a ser PEREGRINOS DE LA ESPERANZA EN EL 2025! Como hijos de Dios, somos gente de Esperanza desde nuestro Bautismo. Necesitamos Esperanza. Todos enfrentamos retos y sufrimientos. Nuestra Esperanza es el Señor Jesucristo. El Senor Jesus es la "puerta" (Juan 10:7-9) de nuestra Salvación. Jesus es nuestra esperanza!
El año Jubilar ofrecerá oportunidades de participar en varias actividades en el Vaticano pero también en nuestra Diócesis. Algunos han preguntado sobre la posibilidad de organizar un Peregrinaje a Roma. Otros si nuestro próximo peregrinaje debería incluir Medjugorje donde la Santísima Virgen Maria continúa apareciendo. Me alegra anunciar que estamos haciendo algunos avances. Tentativamente planeamos salir el 6 de Mayo para Roma donde podremos pasar a través de la Puerta Santa en la Basílica de San Pedro que será abierta por el Papa Francisco el 24 de Diciembre y recibirá muchas bendiciones e indulgencias especiales. Como parte de nuestro propio año del Reavivamiento Eucaristico, también experimentamos ver el asombroso milagro en Lanciano. Los planes incluyen Assisi: San Francisco, Santa Clara y el Beato Carlo Acutis el Santo del Milenio de 15 años de edad (el cual su cuerpo está incorrupto y puede ser venerado). Después iremos a Croacia (probablemente por ferry) y visitaremos Split y Dubrovnik de camino a Medjugorje. Les doy estos posibles planes para que así se comuniquen conmigo si están interesados. Estamos pensando estas fechas por ahora pero las finales serán confirmadas después.Les aseguro que este peregrinaje les traerá muchos dones espirituales y bendiciones de Dios, y estoy pensando en dos grandes peregrinajes (los últimos dos son al Congreso Eucaristico en Indianapolis y a Israel).Todos necesitamos ESPERANZA. Todos enfrentamos dificultades diarias. A veces podemos caer en la oscuridad de la desesperación y “sentir” que Dios nos ha abandonado. Pero creemos firmemente que Dios nunca nos abandona! Padre Pio nos recuerda el poder de la ORACIÓN y de la ESPERANZA: " ORAR, ESPERAR, Y NO PREOCUPARSE". Los invito a orar la ORACIÓN DEL JUBILEO 2025 y reflexionar en su poder mientras meditan en frente del Santísimo Sacramento:
Padre Celestial,
Que la Fe que nos has concedido en
Tu Hijo Jesucristo, nuestro hermano,
Y la llama de CARIDAD
Se encienda en nuestros corazones por el Espíritu Santo, Nos despierte, la bendita ESPERANZA
Por la venida de Tu Reino.
Que Tu Gracia nos transforme
A cultivadores diligentes de las semillas del Evangelio Para que haga que la humanidad y el cosmos se levante En una esperanza confiada
De los cielos nuevos y la tierra nueva,
Cuando el poder del maligno sea derrotado,
