February 27, 2025In this JUBILEE Year of Hope 2025, there is so much to celebrate during LENT: A TIME TO GIVE AND FORGIVE, A TIME TO CONVERT, A TIME TO RECEIVE GOD’s LOVE AND MERCY!
Lent is around the corner, beginning in a few days: March 5. Every Lent is different. Every Lent we are invited to ask God to help choose some Lenten Resolution or Theme for each of us individually, as a family or a parish to help us focus. This Lent 2025, there is an obvious theme: LENT IS JUBILEE. Pope Francis has called the entire Year 2025: a JUBILEE OF HOPE.
This Saturday March 1st, we have invited you to a JUBILEE RETREAT 2025. You will learn what a Jubilee Year means today in the Catholic Church, starting from its Biblical roots. You will also have time to reflect on what a Jubilee means for you individually, as a family, and also as a parishioner. It will also be a good time to reflect on your 40 days of Lent.
I look forward to seeing you this First Saturday March 1st at the 9 am Mass. Then, you are invited to join us at this exciting Jubilee Retreat in the Father Martin Hall. We will have a guest speaker, many of you know: Father Juan Pablo Noboa, who was with us as a seminarian and Deacon in his last two years of priestly formation. He is now completing his second year as Parochial Vicar at the Shrine of St Jude. There will also be time for Prayer, Adoration, Fellowship (potluck lunch) and Small Group Discussion. Come and join us!
You may recall our parish tradition of having a different Lenten Theme every year. I recall many years ago we gave a little rock to every participant at Ash Wednesday Mass. The theme was “Jesus is my Rock”. We were to carry that little rock in our pocket during the entire Lent and bring it back to the foot of the Cross on Good Friday...
This Ash Wednesday we will give every Mass participant a Holy Card with all the key parish events for both Lent and Easter. You are invited to share this Card with someone who may have left the Catholic Church or is no longer practicing his Faith regularly. This can be part of our WALK WITH ONE initiative (see our website for details).
As I wrote to you a few weeks ago, Lent is always a time to repent, a time to convert turning toward God, a time to forgive, a time to fast, a time to share our spiritual and material riches with those in need through spiritual and corporal works of mercy. In this Jubilee Year 2025 Lent will also be a time to Hope, a time to expect a special encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ, a time to be transformed by opening our hearts to the Holy Spirit, a time to Rejoice, A TIME TO GIVE AND FORGIVE, A TIME TO CONVERT, A TIME TO RECEIVE GOD’’s LOVE AND MERCY, a time to Love and to be Merciful, a time to find Inner Peace.
May you ask God to open your heart to HIS GRACE this Lenten Season! May HIS Grace help you TO GIVE AND FORGIVE: Give to someone in need (material, emotional, spiritual), ask God to forgive your sins (Confession) and ask someone you have hurt to forgive you!
May God give you the Grace to spend at least one hour with Him during the 40 HOURS OF ADORATION AND CONFESSION beginning the day after Ash Wednesday. Go to confession: there will be at least one priest available for Confession during these 40 hours! CONFESSION AND CONVERSION GO TOGETHER!

UN TIEMPO PARA DAR Y PERDONAR...En este Año JUBILAR de la Esperanza 2025, hay mucho que celebrar durante la CUARESMA: UN TIEMPO DE DAR Y PERDONAR, UN TIEMPO DE CONVERSIÓN, UN TIEMPO DE RECIBIR EL AMOR Y LA MISERICORDIA DE DIOS!
La Cuaresma está ya muy cerca: empezando en unos cuantos días: 5 de Marzo. Cada Cuaresma es diferente. Cada Cuaresma estamos invitados a pedirle a Dios poder escoger algunas resolu- ciones de Cuaresma o Tema para cada uno de nosotros individualmente, como familia o como parroquia que nos ayude a enfocarnos. Esta Cuaresma 2025, hay un Tema evidente: LA CUARESMA ES UN JUBILEO. El Papa Francisco ha nombrado todo el año 2025: JUBILEO DE LA ESPERANZA.
Este sábado 1 de marzo, los hemos invitado al RETIRO JUBILAR 2025. Aprenderán lo que significa un Año Jubilar hoy en la Iglesia Católica, empezando desde las raíces Bíblicas . También tendrán tiempo para reflexionar sobre lo que significa Jubileo individualmente, como familia y como feligrés. Será un buen tiempo para reflexionar durante sus 40 días de Cuaresma.
Espero verlos este Primer Sábado 1 de marzo en la Misa de 9 de la mañana. Después, está invitado a unirse a este emocionante retiro Jubilar en el salón parroquial del Padre Martin. Tendremos un orador invitado que muchos de ustedes conocen: Padre Juan Pablo Noboa, quien estuvo aquí en la parroquia como seminarista y Diácono en sus últimos dos años de formación sacerdotal. Ahora está completando su segundo año como vicario parroquial en la Basílica de San Judas. También habrá tiempo de Oración, Adoración, Compartimiento (almuerzo compartido) y discusión en grupos pequeños. Venga y únase!
Tal vez recordará que en nuestra tradición parroquial tenemos un tema diferente cada año por Cuaresma. Recuerdo que hace muchos años dimos unas piedrecitas a cada participante de la Misa del Miércoles de Ceniza. El Tema era “Jesús es mi Roca”. Teníamos que llevar esa piedrecita en nuestro bolsillo durante toda la Cuaresma y traerla de regreso a los pies de la Cruz el Viernes Santo...
Este Miércoles de Ceniza le daremos a cada participante una Tarjeta Santa con todas las actividades claves en la parroquia para Cuaresma y Pascua. Está invitado a compartir esta tarjeta con alguien quien ha dejado la iglesia o ya no participa en la Fe con regularidad. Esto podría ser parte de su iniciativa CAMINAR CON UNO este año.
Como les escribí hace algunas semanas, La Cuaresma siempre es un tiempo de arrepentimiento, un tiempo de conversión, de volver a Dios, un tiempo de perdonar, un tiempo de compartir nuestros bienes materiales y espirituales con aquellos necesitados a través de obras de misericordia espiritual y corporal. En este año Jubilar 2025 será también un tiempo de Esperanza, tiempo de esperar un encuentro especial con nuestro Señor Jesucristo, un tiempo para ser transformado abriendo nuestros corazones al Espíritu Santo, un tiempo de Alegrarse, un tiempo de Amar y de tener Paz interior.
Que pueda pedirle a Dios que abra su corazón a SU GRACIA en este tiempo de Cuaresma! Que Su Gracia lo ayude a DAR Y PERDONAR: Dele a alguien necesitado (material, emocional, espiritualmente) , pídale a Dios que le perdone sus pecados a través de la (Confesión) y también pídale perdón a alguien a quien usted haya ofendido!
Que Dios le conceda la Gracia de estar al menos una hora con Él durante las 40 HORAS DE ADORACIÓN Y CONFESIÓN empezando el día siguiente del Miércoles de Ceniza. Vaya a confesión :habrá un sacerdote disponible durante las 40 horas!
