Giving Thanks To God At All Times!

April 24, 2025The entire Catholic Church can give thanks to God for the 12 years Pope Francis served as our Shepherd: March 13, 2013, to April 21, 2025. As our Archbishop Robert Cardinal McElroy said: “Today the Church and the world have lost a true shepherd of souls, a beacon of unwavering hope, and a voice of penetrating truth. From the very first moments of his service to the universal Church, Pope Francis enshrined the mercy of God at the heart of his proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In doing so, he illuminated with new depth the pastoral dimension of the Church’s mission, which is rooted first in embracing love rather than in judgment. It is this embracing love which led Pope Francis to be a prophetic advocate for the poor and the dispossessed, the unborn and the immigrant, the victims of war and the earth which is our common home. It was this love also that animated his tender personal care for all those whom he encountered personally in their suffering --- those who saw their life marked by failure, the sick, those suffering from addictions, the incarcerated, those who had lost their way in life. It was in these intimate moments of pastoral care that we saw with such poignancy the heart of the pastor who had embodied mercy and love to the suffering in Buenos Aires and refused to diminish that commitment even when the strictures of the papacy fell upon him.”
All Catholics in the entire world are now mourning until Pope Francis’ Funeral Mass is celebrated in Rome this Saturday. We too at OLHOC are praying for the repose of his soul. We have already invited you to have special prayers for him on Wednesday and Thursday: see flocknotes of April 23rd.
At OLHOC, we can all give thanks to God for a most Joyful and Hopeful Lent/Holy Week in this Jubilee Year 2025! At many liturgies, the church was packed and one could sense the presence of the Holy Spirit. As your pastor, I give thanks to God for all the volunteers who have given so generously of their time and talent: the teachers of religious education, the altar servers (I counted 25 being commissionedon Holy Thursday), the Altar Guild keeping our church beautiful, the musicians and choirs , the Lectors, the sacristans/greeters, the Eucharistic Ministers.
The Easter Vigil was very emotional for me. I felt a deep Joy in my heart. The liturgy was the best we ever had in my 15 years as your pastor. I knew it was also the last Easter Vigil for me as your pastor... I had met our new Archbishop the week before and told him I was going to be 80 years old this September and the time had come for our parish to have a new leader: someone younger and more energetic. My health was not the same as it used to be.
The Holy Spirit then inspired me to announce to you my departure. I was not at all prepared. I had meant to talk first to my staff, then to the Parish Council, and also wait to know who would be appointed to replace me. Changes of pastors occur end of June and are usually announced early June...
It is very difficult for me to say good-by to parishioners. I love to welcome new people joining us...You call me Father. You are my children. You will always remain in my heart wherever I go beyond June. I can also assure you that I will never retire as a priest: I am only 16-year old and I will serve as a priest forever... most likely, I will not go far away from Waldorf...
May God grant you all a most joyful and hopeful continuation of this Jubilee Year 2025!
May the Holy Spirit guide the Electoral College of Cardinals and may our next Pope be a Holy man maintaining the Unity of the Church and leading us all to be evangelizers proclaiming the Good News of Our Lord Jesus Christ : He loves us all. He is an Ocean of Mercy for all sinners. He dies for our sins. He rises from the dead to give all of us a New Life, a New Hope: to be with Him now and forever!

Father AlainDANDO GRACIAS A DIOS EN TODO TIEMPO!Toda la Iglesia está dando gracias a Dios por los 12 años que el Papa Francisco sirvió como nuestro Pastor: 13 de Marzo, 2013, hasta el 21 de Abril, 2025. Como bien lo dijo nuestro Cardenal McElroy:
“Hoy la Iglesia y el mundo han perdido a un verdadero pastor de almas, un faro de esperanza inquebrantable y una voz de verdad penetrante. Desde los primeros momentos de su servicio a la Iglesia universal, el papa Francisco consagró la misericordia de Dios en el corazón de su proclamación del Evangelio de Jesucristo. Al hacerlo, iluminó con nueva profundidad la dimensión pastoral de la misión de la Iglesia, que se basa primero en el abrazo del amor y no en el juicio. Es este amor abrasador el que llevó al papa Francisco a ser un defensor profético de los pobres y los desposeídos, los no nacidos y los inmigrantes, las víctimas de la guerra y la tierra que es nuestra casa común. Era también este amor el que animaba su tierno cuidado personal por todos aquellos con los que se encontraba personalmente en su sufrimiento -aquellos que veían su vida marcada por el fracaso, los enfermos, los que sufrían adicciones, los encarcelados, los que habían perdido el rumbo de la vida. Fue en estos momentos íntimos de cuidado pastoral que vimos con tanta intensidad el corazón del pastor que había encarnado la misericordia y el amor a los que sufrían en Buenos Aires y se negó a disminuir ese compromiso incluso cuando las restricciones del
papado cayeron sobre él.”
Todos los católicos del mundo entero están de luto hasta que sea celebrada la Misa de Funerales del Papa F rancisco este sábado en Roma. También aquí en Maria Auxiliadora estamos orando por el descanso de su al- ma. Ya los he invitado, ha tener oraciones especiales este Miércoles y Jueves: la cita de flocknotes de hoy.
Aquí en Maria Auxiliadora, podemos darle gracias a Dios por esta hermosa y esperanzadora Cuaresma y Semana Santa en este Año Jubilar 2025! En muchas liturgias, la iglesia estaba llena y se podía sentir la presencia del Espíritu Santo.
Como su pastor, le doy gracias a Dios por todos los voluntarios quienes han dado tan generosamente su tiempo y talento: los maestros de educación religiosa, los servidores del altar ( conte 25 siendo comisionados el Jueves Santo),las que arreglan la iglesia la mantienen hermosa, los músicos y coros , los Lectores, los sacristanes/los que dan la bienvenida, los Ministros de Eucaristía, los Caballeros de Colón.
La Vigilia de Pascua fue muy emotiva para mi.Sentí una profunda Alegría en mi corazón. La Liturgia fue la mejor de todas las que hemos tenido en estos 15 años como su pastor. Sabía que era la última Vigilia de Pascua para mi como su pastor...
Me reuní con el nuevo arzobispo la semana anterior y le dije que cumpliría 80 años en Septiembre y que el tiempo había llegado para que nuestra parroquia tuviera un nuevo lider: alguien joven y con más energía. Mi salud ya no es la misma que solía ser.
El Espíritu Santo me inspiró para anunciar mi despedida. No estaba para nada preparado. Había pensado hablar primero con el personal, después con el Consejo parroquial y también esperar a quien iban a asignar para reemplazarme. Los cambios de pastores suceden a finales de Junio y generalmente son anunciados en las primeras semanas de Junio...
Es muy difícil para mí decir adiós cuando la gente se va de nuestra parroquia. Me encanta darle la bienvenida cuando se unen a nuestra iglesia...Ustedes me llaman Padre. Ustedes son mis hijos. Ustedes siempre estarán en mi corazón sin importar a donde vaya. También les puedo asegurar que nunca me retiraré de ser sacerdote: Solamente tengo 16 años de servir como sacerdote para siempre...mas o menos, no me ire muy lejos de Waldorf...
Que Dios nos conceda a todos un Año Jubilar 2025 lleno de Alegría y Esperanza!
Que el Espíritu Santo guíe al Colegio Electoral de Cardenales y que nuestro próximo Papa sea un hombre santo manteniendo la unidad de la Iglesia , y dirigiéndonos a ser evangelizadores proclamando las Buenas Nuevas de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo :Él nos ama a todos. El es un océano de Misericordia para todos los pecadores. El murió por nuestros hijos. El resucito de la muerte para darnos a todos una Vida Nueva, una Nueva Esperanza: para estar con Él ahora y para siempre!
