Closing Our 40th Year and Entering A New Year Of Activities
We just received some good news, Archbishop Gregory will visit our parish to celebrate the 5 pm Saturday Vigil Mass on September 19th to close the celebration of our 40th anniversary; please mark your calendars. Our parish was established by Cardinal Hickey on September 15, 1980 and on Tuesday, September 15
th our parish will turn 40 years. We would also like to honor the current parishioners who have been members from the very beginning (e.g. Special Blessing by the Archbishop just before the beginning of the 5 pm Mass) and would appreciate it if you could let our office know whether you will be available or not on that day (if you cannot come, we would still like to recognize you). Any other suggestions for the closing of our 40th year are most welcome (
[email protected]). We plan to discuss them at the August 13 meeting of our Parish Council. Stay tuned for more detailed information around the end of August.
We are also excited to share some good news about the first parish activity of the New Year 2020-21 beginning early September; we are launching a new and expanded RCIA Program for all parishioners, CA/RCIA (Catholicism for Adults and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). While it will help prepare adults who have not received Baptism, Eucharist, or Confirmation (traditional RCIA focusing on the three sacraments of Christian Initiation), it will also be open to the participation of all parishioners to help them become true followers of Jesus Christ through a strengthening of their Catholic Faith and a better understanding of the Catholic Sacraments.
Are you or someone you know, seeking to learn more about the Catholic Faith? Maybe you are thinking about joining the Church , OR, you are a Catholic wanting to complete a sacrament (Baptism, Eucharist, and/or Confirmation), OR, you just want to understand your Faith better?
You are invited to join your fellow parishioners in this new program CA/RCIA starting with an orientation session on Wednesday, September 9th at 7 PM virtually via Zoom, or in person, in the Father Martin Hall every Wednesday from 7-9 PM ( to get more information and sign up for this orientation session, please see below). Mike and Diane Spurgeon have agreed to take the lead in organizing and teaching this new program. They will be assisted by the current instructors of the RCIA program, and by Deacon Rich who will continue to oversee our two RCIA programs (English and Spanish) and will remain the main contact with the Archdiocese for sacramental preparation.
Jesus said that, "
He had come to set the world on fire and wished that it were already burning." (Luke 12:49). If Jesus were to return on earth today, would He be satisfied that the world is burning through the fire of the Holy Spirit? Or would He see the impact of the fire of the secular world? Jesus also said, "But when the Son of Man comes, will he find Faith on earth?” (Luke 18:8). When Jesus returns (second coming), will He still find Faith on earth? FAITH IS A GIFT FROM GOD! Faith is a gift from the Holy Spirit. We all need to have our hearts set on fire by the Holy Spirit. We all need the gift of Faith! The Catholic Church and the Seven Sacraments instituted by Jesus Christ are essential on our journey of Faith. Every Sacrament strengthens our personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Let us pray to the Holy Spirit that we can all be transformed by His power and become true disciples of Jesus Christ:
"Come Holy Spirit, come! Enkindle our hearts with the Fire of Your Love! Help us recognize Your Power and become a Light to others! Help us increase our own Faith! Help those most in need of the Gift of Faith!
Come Holy Spirit, Come! Help us transform our lives through the Church and the Sacraments! Help us desire to become true disciples of Christ!”
