CALLED TO BE PILGRIMS OF HOPE!

December 31, 2024With Pope Francis opening the Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica on Christmas Eve, we all entered the JUBILEE YEAR 2025, also known as the HOLY YEAR celebrated every 25 years. Earlier on, Pope Francis had written” For everyone, may the Jubilee be a moment of genuine, personal encounter with the Lord Jesus, the “door” (John 10:7) of our Salvation, whom the Church is charged to proclaim always, everywhere and to all as “our hope” (1 Tim 1:1)... The time has come for a new Jubilee, when once more the Holy Door will be flung open to invite everyone to an intense experience of the Love of God that awakens in hearts the sure Hope of Salvation in Christ.” In this new Holy Year 2025, Pope Francis has called all of us to be PILGRIMS OF HOPE!
Inspired by this Jubilee Year, we had chosen “CHRIST IS OUR HOPE” as the theme for our own Novena of Masses before Christmas at OLHOC. Christ is our only Hope. He is the Son of God who became man to give us life, eternal life. He loves each of us personally. He became man to be near us. He is always with us. This theme of HOPE resonated with the close to 150 parishioners who came for nine consecutive nights to get prepared to receive baby Jesus in their hearts at Christmas. Their joyful experience was truly that of “Pilgrims of Hope”.
For all of us life is a spiritual pilgrimage! We all come from God and are expected to return to God. While we were born on earth, God the Father is our Creator. God‘s love for us is immense: his greatest desire is that at the end of our journey on earth we will be united with Him forever in Heaven. We are called to be Pilgrims of Hope at all times. This Jubilee Year will help us to strengthen our Hope in the Lord.
By now you must have heard that the Three Kings are coming to our Church: 10 AM Saturday, January 4th! They will answer any questions our children may have: where do they come from? What is that star they have been following? How did they recognize the baby Jesus as the newborn King of the Jews? What gifts they brought to Jesus, etc. They will also receive letters from children including special requests...This Epiphany Sunday,January 6 we are all invited to be child-like and dream about our own spiritual journey on earth: what is my guiding star? What should I give to Jesus? What should I ask from Jesus? How can I be a pilgrim of hope? How can I pray when I go through challenging or painful situations? Maybe you could write your own letter to Jesus...
Whenever you enter our church remember that you enter sacred ground, and that Mass is Heaven on Earth. Our church entrance door is a Door of Hope: Jesus is waiting for you hidden in the Tabernacle and he is waiting for you Really Present in the consecrated Host at Mass. Whenever you enter our Confessional, it is also a Door of Hope: Jesus is waiting for you to forgive your sins and give you Hope.
At all Christmas Masses we gave you a short book: ”33 Days to Eucharistic Glory”. It is a spiritual pilgrimage, an inner journey giving you much Hope by leading you to a renewed experience of Jesus in the Eucharist. We will discuss it at 7 PM, Thursday, January 30th. ¡LLAMADOS A SER PEREGRINOS DE ESPERANZA!Con el Papa Francisco abriendo la Puerta Santa en la Basílica de San Pedro en la Nochebuena, todos hemos entrado en el AÑO JUBILAR 2025, también conocido como el AÑO SANTO que se celebra cada 25 años. Recientemente, el Papa Francisco escribió: "Para todos, que el Jubileo sea un momento de encuentro personal y genuino con el Señor Jesús, la 'puerta' (Juan 10:7) de nuestra Salvación, a quien la Iglesia tiene la gracia de proclamar siempre, en todas partes y para todos como 'nuestra esperanza' (1 Tim 1:1)... Ha llegado el momento de un nuevo Jubileo, cuando una vez más la Puerta Santa se abrirá de par en par para invitar a todos a una experiencia intensa del Amor de Dios que despierta en los corazones la segura Esperanza de Salvación en Cristo". En este nuevo Año Santo 2025, el Papa Francisco nos ha llamado a ser ¡PEREGRINOS DE LA ESPERANZA!
Inspirados por este Año Jubilar, hemos elegido "CRISTO ES NUESTRA ESPERANZA" como el tema para nuestra propia Novena de Misas antes de Navidad en OLHOC. Cristo es nuestra única Esperanza. Es el Hijo de Dios que se hizo hombre para darnos vida, vida eterna. Nos ama a cada uno de manera personal. Se hizo hombre para estar cerca de nosotros. Siempre está con nosotros. Este tema de ESPERANZA resonó con los cerca de 150 feligreses que asistieron durante nueve noches consecutivas para prepararse para recibir al Niño Jesús en sus corazones en Navidad. Su experiencia llena de gozo fue realmente la de "Peregrinos de la Esperanza".
Para todos nosotros, la vida es una peregrinación espiritual. Todos venimos de Dios y con la esperanza de regresar a Él. Aunque nacimos en la tierra, Dios Padre es nuestro Creador. El amor de Dios por nosotros es inmenso: su mayor deseo es que al final de nuestro viaje en la tierra estemos unidos con Él para siempre en el Cielo. Estamos llamados a ser Peregrinos de la Esperanza en todo momento. Este Año Jubilar nos ayudará a fortalecer nuestra Esperanza en el Señor.
Ya deben haber escuchado que los Tres Reyes Magos vienen a nuestra Iglesia: ¡10 am, sábado 4 de enero! Responderán a cualquier pregunta que nuestros niños puedan tener: ¿de dónde vienen? ¿Qué es esa estrella que han estado siguiendo? ¿Cómo reconocieron al Niño Jesús como el recién nacido Rey de los Judíos? ¿Qué regalos le llevaron a Jesús, etc.? También recibirán cartas de los niños, incluyendo peticiones especiales... Este Domingo de la Epifanía, 6 de enero, todos estamos invitados a sercomo niños y soñar con nuestro propio viaje espiritual en la tierra: ¿cuál es mi estrella guía? ¿Qué debería darle a Jesús? ¿Qué debería pedirle a Jesús? ¿Cómo puedo ser un peregrino de esperanza? ¿Cómo puedo orar cuando paso por situaciones desafiantes o dolorosas? Tal vez podrías escribir tu propia carta a Jesús...
Cada vez que entres en nuestra iglesia, recuerda que entras en un terreno sagrado, y que la Misa es el Cielo en la Tierra. La puerta de entrada de nuestra iglesia es una Puerta de Esperanza: Jesús te está esperando, oculto en el Sagrario, y te espera Realmente Presente en la Hostia consagrada durante la Misa. Cada vez que entres en nuestro Confesionario, también es una Puerta de Esperanza: Jesús te está esperando para perdonar tus pecados y darte Esperanza.
En todas las Misas de Navidad les dimos un pequeño libro: "33 Días hacia la Gloria Eucarística". Es una peregrinación espiritual, un viaje interior que te da mucha Esperanza al conducirte a una experiencia renovada de Jesús en la Eucaristía. Lo discutiremos a las 7 pm, el jueves 30 de enero.
