It is amazing to me that the event (Father Narcisse Martin’s Centennial Memorial Mass) we have been planning for so very long at Our Lady Help of Christians is being held on Sunday August 6! Having Bishop Roy Campbell as our main celebrant for the Mass, with Fr. Jacques Tangombe and Fr. Larry Therien, former Superior General of Sulpicians as concelebrants, contributes to our joy immensely. Not to mention the pilgrims from Aire-sur-la-Lys, France (Father Narcisse Martin’s hometown), who have landed, not at Plymouth Rock, but in Waldorf! Oh, how I wish I were with you to celebrate this joyous occasion; please know that your pastor will be there fully in spirit with you!

This most special occasion at OLHOC will begin with the 11:30 AM Mass, celebrated by Bishop Roy Campbell, centered around the summit of our Faith, the Eucharist! Our liturgy will also be blessed with an incredible musical component—a world premiere Opus for the Organ, performed by the gifted organist from St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Washington, DC. In addition, our very talented soloist, Sarah, will contribute to our joy of worship, both with her voice and directing our St. Cecelia’s Girls’ Choir. As I often quote from the Catholic writer and scholar, Dr. Scott Hahn, the Mass is Heaven on Earth; in this particular case, I believe this Mass may be a bit of both—Heaven and Earth!

Joining us for this special occasion will be the French pilgrims (who traveled here specifically for this Mass), board members of the Father Martin Society, guest clergy, and of course, the loving parishioners of Our Lady Help of Christians. The Mass will be followed by a Reception in the Father Martin Hall in honor of Bishop Campbell and the pilgrims, with refreshments to enjoy and fellowship to share. Be sure to save a seat for your pastor!

Being here in California recovering from my mild stroke, although there are many miles between us, I will be fully with you in spirit in the midst of this momentous celebration. It is because of your many prayers that my road to recovery is progressing so well; the goal of returning to you as your pastor is a constant and great motivation. I cannot express enough my appreciation for the many cards, kind thoughts and prayers you have bestowed upon me. They are the ‘best medicine’ I could have! For now, I leave you with great joy at the celebration you will be experiencing this Sunday August 6 with Bishop Roy Campbell, the pilgrims, and many other wonderful guests and parishioners at the Father Narcisse Martin Centennial Memorial Mass and Reception—enjoy it to the fullest!!

El Obispo Roy Campbell esta Aqui! Los Peregrinos han aterrizado!

Es sorprendente para mi que este evento (la Misa en Memoria del Centenario de Padre Narcisse Martin) que hemos estado planeando por tanto tiempo en Maria Auxiliadora finalmente esta suceda hoy, 6 de Agosto 2023! Tenemos al Obispo Roy Campbell como nuestro celebrante principal para la Misa, junto al Padre Jacques Tangombe y Padre Larry Therien, quien era el Superior General de los Sulpicianos, como concelebrantes, contribuyendo inmensamente a nuestra alegria. Sin dejar de mencionar a los Peregrinos de Air-Sur-Lys, Francia (el pueblo de Padre Narcisse Martin), quienes han aterrisado, no en Plymouth Rock, sino que en Waldorf! Oh, cuanto deseo estar con ustedes para celebrar esta alegre ocasion; por favor quiero que sepan que su Pastor estara completamente con ustedes en espiritu!

Esta ocasion especial empezara en Maria Auxiliadora empezara con la Misa de las 11:30 a.m. celebrada por el Obispo Roy Campbell, concentrados en la cima de nuestra Fe, la Eucaristia! Nuestra liturgia tambien sera bendecida con un incredible componente musical—una premier mundial compuesta para Organo, presentada por el virtuoso organista de la Catedral de San Mateo en Washington, DC. Ademas, nuestra talentosa solista, Sarah, quien contribuira a nuestra alegria alabando, con su voz y tambien dirigiendo al coro de niñas Santa Cecilia. He mencionado al escritor y academico Catolico, Dr. Scott Hahn, La Misa es el Cielo en la Tierra; y en este caso en particular, creo que esta Misa sera un poco de ambas—Cielo y Tierra!

Nos estaran acompañando para esta ocasion especial los Peregrinos de Francia (quienes han viajado hasta aqui especialmente para esta Misa), miembros de la Junta Directiva de la Sociedad del Padre Martin, sacerdotes invitados, y por supuesto, los queridos parroquianos de Maria Auxiliadora. Despues de la Misa habra una recepcion en el Salon Padre Martin en honor del Obispo Campbell y los Peregrinos, con bocadillos y bebidas para compartir. Asegurese de guardar un asiento para su Pastor!

Mientras etoy aqui en California recuperandome de este derrame cerebral leve, sabiendo que hay muchas millas entre nosotros , estare presente completamente en espiritu en medio de esta transcendental celebracion. Es debido a sus muchisimas oraciones que el camino de mi recuperacion esta progresando tan bien; la meta constante es volver como su Pastor y mi gran motivacion. No puedo expresarlo suficiente el aprecio por todas las tarjetas con pensamientos tan bondadosos y las oraciones que me han otorgado. Ellas son la ‘mejor medicina’ que podria tener! Por ahora, los dejo con la gran alegria de la celebracion que estan experimentando hoy con el Obispo Roy Campbell, los peregrinos, y los demas maravillosos invitados y los parroquianos en la Misa en Memoria del Centenar del Padre Narcisse Martin y la Recepcion—Disfrutenlo mucho!!
